A very warm welcome to the website of Lockington Church of England Primary School!
Lockington is a Church School where Christian values underpin the daily life of the school, in particular compassion, creativity and perseverance in the way we approach challenges. Our vision, ‘Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven’, encapsulates much of what we desire for our pupils – that they each realise their potential with joy, and shine as bright lights in our communities and lead fulfilled lives.
Our school motto, “The little school that makes a big difference,” reflects our pupils’ happy approach to learning, nurtured by committed staff and a creative, balanced curriculum, with the perfect mix of challenge and inspiration. It also embodies the warmth and care of everybody in the school, described in a parents’ survey as feeling “like a family unit”.
We are extremely proud of our modern and well-equipped building, which opened in 2002. The attractive grounds have been developed to provide learning opportunities as well as creative play, including a wildlife area, outside stage and classroom, storytelling area and a special area for quiet reflection.
The school plays an important role within the community. With a range of clubs, including a breakfast and after-school club, residential visits and sporting links, the children are offered many opportunities to broaden their horizons, grow in confidence and learn new skills.
Parents and governors play an active part in school life, as do the Friends of Lockington School, who work hard to organise fundraising events and in turn provide generous support for visits and other ventures.
Our Governors are representative of the local community, parents and school staff, and together we support and help guide the school by being a ‘critical friend’. Governors bring a range of interests, knowledge and skills to the role and all have the common desire to help our whole school community to flourish. We all help promote the Christian vision for our school and, as part of the Ethos Committee, our Foundation Governors take a particular interest in the provision of collective worship and the Christian education elements of our curriculum.
At Lockington, our Christian ethos permeates every layer of school life. It is the basis upon which we educate the whole child and ensure both spiritual development and academic progress. We have a broad and balanced programme for collective worship, which incorporates special times and events within the year. Children are given time for reflection and are encouraged to see the joy and wonder of the world.
As a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, the implementation of Christian values in the everyday life of the school is reflected in relationships, policies and the decision-making process. Our daily collective worship strengthens the Christian identity of our school and reaffirms our vision and core values of compassion, creativity and perseverance.
You are warmly invited to visit and we hope you will find that we are a “little school that makes a big difference”.
